[Australia & N.Z. Cable Association.] MELBOURNE FIRES. MELBOURNE, November 18. Eire destroyed a building in Lonsdale Street, the two top floors ui which were occupied by the Standard ( ost nine Coy., and the bottom floor by the Meadows Coy of glass Levellers. The damage amounts to many thousands.
A second outbreak in South Melbourne destroyed a portion of the premises occupied hv the Crescent Manufacturing Coy and the WilliamsonPage Motor Cycle Coy., causing considerable. damage.
A THUNDERSTORM. SYDNEY. November 19. A violent thunderstorm accompanied hv torrential rain flooded the city and suburban streets. -Many tram* were derailed and the electric light and telephone service were disorganised. Further action will not ho taken until next year. The Legislative Council read a third lime the forty-four hours week bill. AFSTR VLTA SCEPTICAL. AIELBOURNE. Nov. 19. Both the Postmaster-General and the Director of Postal Services are sceptical regarding the cabled announcement that Canada is going to withdraw from the Pacific Cable Board. They state nothing further has lieen heard since the Canadian protest against the duplication was received in Afarch last. Even if she did withdraw the only thin" that would happen would be a re-ad justinent of the finances regarding Britain, Australia and New Zealand.
