SHIPPING TROUBLE.

There was an unexpected strike development, when wntersiders refused to unload the steamer Somerset, which recently arrived with a scratch crew from Queensland. It more surprised the owners, who had been assured by the Federal Executive of the AVatcrsidors that all oversea ships would be worked.
Seamen will meet to-day to consider proposals for an early resumption. It is understood- that when the strike is over, places will be found in the Australian Seamen’s Union for the executive officers of the strikers.

Tho industrial position at Bowen is much brighter. Many farmers are returning home. Wharf labourers on Friday decided not to handle cargo except under tho rotary system. On Saturday the farmers insisted that the wharf labourers should hold a meeting. Tho farmers surrounded the meeting and refused to allow a number of extremists to take part. After the meeting was addressed by farmers who stated that unless produce was loaded, the waterside is* must ho prepared to take the consequences. the wntersiders decided to load the cargoes, ponding the decision of the State Government’s Committee ot investigation of the Rotary System. The chief trouble now is lack of ships to take the sugar away.
