There was an unexpected strike development, when wntersiders refused to unload the steamer Somerset, which recently arrived with a scratch crew from Queensland. It more surprised the owners, who had been assured by the Federal Executive of the AVatcrsidors that all oversea ships would be worked.

Seamen will meet to-day to consider proposals for an early resumption. It is understood- that when the strike is over, places will be found in the Australian Seamen’s Union for the executive officers of the strikers.
