The death occurred yesterday at the Heefton Hospital, of Air Robert Duffy, a very old resident of the district living associated with it from the beginning. He was a. native of Ireland, 72 years of age. and leaves three sons and three daughters. One son was killed in France, and another Hubert, was drowned in the surf disaster at Greyruoutli Beach on February 8. 1922.

The Government Publicity Officer lias received advice from the Photographers' Association of America with headquarters at Washington, that a dozen enlarged photographs ol selected New Zealand scenes will he displayed in the Association’s Pictorial Exhibit at next year’s- annual convention. The Association receives portaril exhibits from the Professional Photographers’ Association of Great Britain and Ireland and the Ontario Society of Canada and is anxious to obtain a simlisir exhibit from tho Professional Portrait Photographers of this Dominion. The Publicity Officer will he glad to supply further information to any Photographer interested in the proposition.

There is to be a wry interesting cake making competition in connection with the gala day on Cass Square on Saturday week. A valuable special prize Is offered lor the most points gained in tbe cooking section, and in addition the Hokitika Gas to.. Ltd., will donate a special prize for the most pouts gained with gas cooked goods. There should he-a very interesting competition. The schedule, as set out in the programme provides for a wide rangu of home cooked goods, all ol which will he sold lor the henelit- ot the mild. Entries may he made at the County Office. This should prove a novel and interesting programme and will add very greatly to the public interest. on the afternoon to he spent on Cass Square on the 21st inst.

The advance in the scrutiny ot the Westland electoral rolls is still .slow if necessity. Up to yesterday evening some 15 of the 95 rolls used had been scrutinised. But the 15 cover all the rolls used at the largest booths. At the same time duplications are more likely to he met at the smaller Ikiollis, and these lake time to unravel. During the past, two evenings, the Returning Officer and a, special staff have been engaged preparing for the checking of the absentee votes. This also, for various reasons, is a slow process. In some cases Buller votes have been sent here, and probably it will lie found Westland votes have gone to Westport, some North Island folk apparently having a hazy idea of West Coast geographical positions. All rolls and ballot papers for Westland from outlying centres are now to hand, and to-night tho end of the scrutiny should he in sight, hut it is difficult tn estimate a definite time as any apparent duplications in voting have to he cleared up as the work proceeds. On the' lace of it at present it'seems probable that the final result of the Westland polling will not he available till Friday at tbe earliest though every effort i.s still ‘being made to reach finality on Thursday, late at night, though it he.
