On the contrary, the situation is considered to be slightly improved. BEIRUT, November 7. Ilakri. ex-leader of the Syrian Nationalists. and now a brigand chief, has proclaimed a republic. He led a rebel attack on Damascus, which the Erencli drove off, killing sixty. The pursued rebels re-attacked the military. and lighting is now proceeding. PARIS, November 0. The news is confirmed that a state of siege has been proclaimed at' Damascus. The inhabitants have been warned to take precautions to safeguard then lives. PAULS, November 7. A Beirut communique states that, wiili the view of regrouping the Erencli forces, the troops occupying have evacuated that post without incident.
