MELBOURNE. Nov. 5. The weather for the Elemington races was line anil bright to-day and there was a large attendance. Great interest centred in the Linlithgow Stakes. Race records were established in the first three events. Results were as follows:
November Hurdle Race. —Investigate 1, Kacquart 2. Grey Knight 3. Seven Marled. Won by 5 lengths. I hue 5.39. Mimosa Stakes —Cyden l. Kanuoka 2 Epilogue 3. Seven .started. Mon by three lengths. Time 1.13:1. LINLITHGOW STAKES.
Night Patrol !).2 <G. Young) ... 1 Whittier 9.2 (F. Dempsey) 2 Heroic 9.2 (Pike) “ Six started. Won by half a length; third a length away. 'lime 1.37. Carnival Handicap—Preston Grange 1, Jimmie 82. Baldwin 3. Eight started. Won by a bead. Time I.G’J. Oaks Stakes Redshanks 1. Ethelton 2. Bonnie Rente 3. Alter an exciting race Redshanks won by a neck. Time 3.28 1-4 . Veteran Stakes—Solidify 1. The Tyrant 2, Valwyne 3. Eight started. Won by half a length. Time 1.331.
RACING DESCRIBED
In the Hurdles. Investigate was prominent throughout and won easily. He was riilen bv Tnkson, who won the Cup Steeples on Agricola. Cyden. on the outside rail was altvavs at the front in the Mimosa Stakes and won easily, giving trainer Scobie his fifth win.
Night Patrol led over the last seven furlongs in the l.fnlithtrow Stakes,
which was a good race. The Hawk ww never dangerous, finishing fifth. Night Patrol won this race last year.
The Linlithgow Stakes fractional times were: First two furlongs 25} -c:s. ; next two 24 1-4 and last four 17 1-4.
There was an exciting finish in tho Oaks, which was won in the last stroke. The first two furlongs took 26}secs; the next four 40] and the last four 49}. Preston Grange was trained by the ex-Ncw Zealander, Loti Robertson.
There was a, good race for the Oaks the favourite Ethelton being narrowIv beaten by Redshanks, owned by E. M. Pearce, who was formerly racing under the assumed name of “Melrose.” In the Veteran Stakes the last four furlongs took 49 secs. J. Cameron stated to-night he is returning to New Zealand with The Hawk by the first available boat.
