SPANISH FRONT. LONDON, October 31. Reuter’s special correspondent at the Spanish headquarters ot Alliuconias states that extensive civil townships, with shops of all kinds, are now springing up. On Calquomudon, a neighbouring island, the foundations of a theatre are being put down. At Abba public gardens have been laid out, and electric light installed. Civilian newsboys visit the Spanish front line daily.
Three Riffs on Monday night crept up to the headquarters of the Second Spanish Infantry Brigade, and shot a staff captain, a subaltern, and a telephonist who were asleep. 1 hey then proceeded to the headquarters of General Saro and killed a sentry, and a soldier, and finally shot themselves fit miles behind the Spanish lines.
The correspondent states the Spanish casualties at Alhucemas total four to five thousand.
