ELECTION DAY.

FACILITIES FOR VOTING. According to the provisions of tho Legislature Act. 1908. it. is not necessary for factories to close during working hours on polling day. but employees arc to he given reasonable facilities in order that they may record their votes. Section 123 of the Act provides as follows: “(•_’) Where tho pulling day at any election is other than tlml appointed as tho weekly half-holiday under tho Shops and {)dices Act. the provisions oi that Act relating to the weekly hallholiday shall lie deemed to refer to the polling day in lieu of the day so appointed, and it shall not lie necessary for an employer to observe the day so appointed in the week in which the polling day falls. “(3) ft shall not l>e necessary for any factory to close during any working hours on the polling day, hut the occupier of the factory shall afford to each of In’s employees a reasonable opportunity of recording his vote, and no deduction shall he made from tho '.vages of any such employee in respect of the time occupied in si recording his vote, providing that such time does not exceed one working hour. “( I) Every occupier of a factory who commits a broach of the last, preceding sub-section is liable to a fine not exceeding L'.j in respect ol every employee.” As the polling day falls on a Wednesday it will ho sti/lioiont compliance with tlie provisions of the Shops and Offices Act regarding tho weekly Imlfholidav if where the usual half-holiday is not observed on Wednesday. the shops are closed on the polling day in lieu of the usual day.
