Parents seem lo have a common habit of frightening their children into submission when threats and punishment fail to check child naughtiness. It’s “Johnny if you aren't good a great big policeman will got you—” or, “ Peggy, come out ol that pantry. I just saw a burglar in there .” There is a talk of the Bogey Alan and other mystic individuals who are supposed to have a penchant for devouring had little hoys and girls. Wiseacres who analyze the psychology of things say that it is wrong to distort the childish mind with such suggestions and threats. Often their effect is such that il takes many years to overcome the false teaching of immaturity. Few children are afraid of the dark until they are taught to believe through some parental ruse that it holds evil for them. “The Family Secret,” the Universal feature starring Baby Peggy deals with this issue. It is a screen version of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s famous novel. “ Editha’s Burglar,” and reflects the story of a little girl whose mother was an invalid, whose father became a burglar and whose childish mind was at the mercy of a governess whose only knowledge of children existed in the narrow schedule outlined for her hy some person obviously childless. A two-reel comedy gazette and travelogue will support this big star. McLean’s Orchestra will render appropriate selections and usual prices will prevail.
