MAORI WAR CANOE. BLENHEIM, October 20
There arrived in Blenheim this morning an interesting relie .it the early days of Pelorus Sound in the shape of a Maori war canoe, which was presented to the Borough hy the Rutland fa mil v, formerly of Baton, Pelorus Sound. The canoe was gouged out from a solid Totara tree hy llewi NVliiro, chief of Tailuku. Teliora, for Kereopa, chief of Ruapaka, who left it to his son .Meibana Kereopa in ISO!). Kereopa sold it in 1880 to Rutland Brothers and they used it for many years I'm- shipping chaff to Kau-iii'.-t for Brownlie and ( <>., carrying over 50 sacks each trip. I lie canoe has been, placed in Waterlea Park.

The Hon R. E. Bollard (Minister of Internal Affairs) announced to-day that the Government lias completed arrangements for photographing all New Zealanders' graves overseas. These would he distributed tree ol charge The plmtogralis will comprise two coloured views ol e.-i- li i emetery and a, black and white print of each soldier's grave. Certain overseas photographers bad approached relatives with an offer lo supply photograph' and pine;' wreaths on ibe graves at prices varying Irom IPs to :15s. Nothing is known officially regarding these offers. The Graves Commission is not associated therewith. If relalives desired wreaths would be placed on am graves in tint United Kingdom. Frame and Belgium. The Government would undertake the arrangements at the cost of tin- wreath.
