DUNEDIN EXHIBITION
[BY TELEGRAPH —PER PP.ESS ASSOCIATION.] IH’NHDI.V Oct. o. There appear to have been rumours in some rj Harters recently Unit because of the shipping strike in Australia. the opening day of tlie Esliibition was likely to be postponed. An official contradiction has been issued t.y .Mr ('. I’. Haineswortli. general manager, who says: ‘‘There is absolutely no foundation for the rumour referred to. Preparations for the whole undertaking are progressing rapidly, and the original date of opening. Xov. 17th.. "ill he adhered to. As fai as the work of the Exhibition authorities is concerned, it is very well in hand. Buildings have been completed, electric services have been installed, contracts have been signed, and the work is in hand for gas and water services. The grounds and paths are in an advanced state, and the general lighting schemes are praclienlly completed. Amusement devices, including the big scenic railway, are nearing completion, and promises to lie completed and thoroughly tested out botorc opening day. Mud of the goods for the British (hivenimeiit's exhibit, and for the Canadian court have been delivered, and many are already in position. Tt. iinioi i ilnntely. the regrettable strike should not be settled for some lime. I see no reason why the directors would have any cause to even consider the possibility of postponing the opening. T would like to draw the attention of New Zealand exhibitors to the necessity of pushing ahead with the erection of their stands. This is a matter over which we ourselves have no direct control, hut we feel that exhibitors need only to be reminded that hut six weeks now remain till opening day to ensure their hearty co-operation, so that wo may have all in readiness for Xov. 17th. Having now been rcsi(k»nt in the Dominion tor ovor nino months, and during flint period having got into touch with various trade or-
ganisations and the commercial lift' of the community generally. T am more than ever convinced that the exhibition "ill he a pronounced success from all points of view. The enthusiasm which lia- already been aroused in every quarter has surpassed my expectations. This is my considered opinion, and 1 feel that 1 should he in a positon to judge, having been officially connected with exhibitions for tile past i v.enty-fivo years.
