It is reported in union circles in Sydney that the coal lumpers decided not to carry out their duties on British vessels, the crews of which nro on strike. It is stated the lumpers refused to coal the Orvicto. GAOLS KI LL. BRTSBAX.K. (Oct. G. Twenty-one striking seamen appeared before the Court on charges of disobedience of duty. Only eighteen could lie dealt with as the gaol is full. These were sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment and the other eases have to stand over till accommodation is available. Thirty-eight members of the crew of the Mamari were sentenced to fourteen days’ gaol for disobedience. Ten men from other ships were fined three days’ pay on charges of being absent without leave, the Magistrate remarking he could not see that any good would bo done by inflicting imprisonment in isolated cases. The Conference called at Fremantle by the Premier of representatives ol the Fremantle branch of the Australian Labour Party, and the Executive of the AVatcrsiders’ Federation, to discuss the raids upon the steamer Demodoetis.

Tt is understood that Mr Collier lias asked both organisations to eo-operate to prevent occurrences of that nature, as such happenings were being used to the political advantage of the opposing party. Representatives of the two bodies undertook to do everything possible to prevent a recurrence.
