[BY TELEUIUrn —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] THE COUNCIL. AV ELL I N~G TON, August 20. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 to-day. A brief debate on a motion by Sir Thomas -MacKenaie advocating the reopening of Otago Sounds was adjourned. Imprest Supply Bill No. 3 and the Rent Restriction Continuance Bill were put through all stages and passed. The Otago Presbyterian Church Board and Property Amendment Bill, the .Marine and Power Engineers Institute lnocrporation Bill were read a first time. The Wellington City Empowering Bill and the Animals Protection and Game Amendment Bill were put through and passed. The Alatainata County Council. Empowering Bill, enabling a County to adjust its internal finance, was lead a second time. The Council adjourned at 1.10 until 2..30 on AYednesday next. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 and immediately went into Committee of Supply to consider the Customs Department’s Estimates of £152,594. -Mr Sullivan moved to reduce the vote by l's as an indication that there would he no remissions of duties on imported uniforms. This was defeated by 31 to 2-8. The vote was then passed. The following votes were also passed: Industries and Commerce £87,050. Agricultural Department- C3G8.207. fn this class there was considerable discussion on the vote of £3.500 to cover the cost of tho A'esfey Commission which the Opposition unsuccessfully tried to reduce. The eight other classes were then passed without discussion. The House rose at 1.15.
