Miss Kathleen McKano was very dost' to deleat. at the hands of Airs Mallory, the iormor American champion. Airs .Mallory played magnificent tennis. She took the first set front the British girl, and forced the latter to the limit of her speed atul skill to save the second and third. Miss AfcKane won as follows: —3-G, 7-5, 8-G. Mrs Alallory was twice within two points of victory in the tenth game of Ihe final set. only to he t urned hack. Miss AlcKane lighting courageously and storming the not with superb daring. Miss AlcKane’,s persistent steadiness in the crisis, carried the day. In the other semi-final. Miss Wills failed to reach her true form until situ had dropped the first set G-3 to Miss Goss. The American champion increased the pressure of her attack in the second set, and dashed through at love, giving a dazzling exhibition ol sustained power. 1 hough the pace slackened in ihe third net. it was still too severe for Miss Goss, when the important point hung in the balance. .Miss Wills won G-2. In the doubles Aliss AA’ills and Miss Browne, who were beaten easily in the deciding match in the international games on August sth.. overwhelmed (ho strong British combination opposes | to them, including Mrs Chambers. The Americans won G-3. G-3. Miss Ryan and Arise Bundy defeated Miss Cose and .Miss Jessup (America) G-U G-3. Aliss Ryan’s decisive net play dominated this match.
