MCLEAN'S PICTURES- “ SECOND FIDDLE.”—TUESDAY. I'Yir Tuesday night the story tolls how hi*' preparations were made for tile homecoming of llerhoi't Uradley, the pride of Spell’s River. Herbert was idolized liv his parents, and Jim., his youn tier brother, looked up to him as a sort of super-being. Jim dad alwav keen regarded as interior to the talented Herbert, so lie stayed home and worked in the oarage in order that Herbert might attend college. The old stage finally drove lip with Herbert, who condescended to greet all the folks. They admitted Herbert had changed, lie was polished, educated, the possessor ol a tight-lit l iug suit, a Russian wolfhound and a cigarette holder of niagnilieent hue and length. He v, as surely a member ol the lamily to be proud of, and his parents and Jim glorified in him. Jim. was in love with Polly Crawford, hut he fell that lie stood little chance in Dolly's alleel ions as compared to the a( miiiplishod Herbert, who took her driving in Jim’s ear, and taught, her I lie new dances, while Jim was made to appear more awkward by Herbert, who grasped even - opportunity to discredit him and relegate him further to the background. . . . Gragg, bent upon revenge, nmeuied a ladder and climbed to the window. Dolly had regained consciousness by this time, and the two for a moment forgot their danger. .V shriek from Dolly warned Jim, and lie turned to see Gragg’s evil lace at the window. He grapsed a chair, the onlv weapon available, and hurled it at Ihe murdenier, then threw himself at Gragg’s leering face. As, with a last desperate ellori, he struck at Gragg, the ladder slipped away and the hrule crashed to the ground below. The posse and townspeople arrived just in time to see the end of the struggleat the window, with Gragg dead troni his fall to the ground. Everyone refilled that Jim was not a "Second Fiddle,” after all. while Dolly said she bud known ii all the lime. A two-reel comedy, and ga?.etle will support this big star.
