JACKIE COOGAN. Air Harry McLean will present a magnificent programme on Friday evening at the Princess Theatre. The star picture is entitled “Long Live the King” Marring the world’s greatest juvenile* actor, Jackie Coogan. The story in brief is as follows. In the capital of Lavonia, a small kingdom in the Balkans, the old king is dying. In the town revolutonaries plot for the overthrow of the monarchy, and in the castle itself others plot for the neighbouring Kingdom of Karnia to make themselves masters. Crown Prince Otto, grandson of the old king and heir to the throne, is taken to the opera. The frowns and angry murmurs of the people turn to cheers ns they see the little Prince. In the palace Mettlieh—the Chancellor, persuades the King that. Karl of Karnia should he married to ilu* Princess Iledwig to protect Laconia from a war with Karnia. The King consents. At the opera I lie play does not amuse the little prince. Watching for an opportunity he slips Irom the royal box and makes his way to ilie street. He hurries to the park and there meets Bobby, an American boy. Together they visit the amusement park owned by Bohbv’s father, and ride on the scenic railway. The disappearance of the prince is noted, and troops scour the city. But all are forced to report failure. Great fears are entertained for his safety, hut late that evening a little dirty bov, whom the guards have difficulty in recognising as the little prince, approaches the gate. For his disobedience his grandfather refuses to sees him for some days. In the meantime Ihe intrigue of the palace gees on. The Princess TTedwig is informed of the coming marriage of state with Prince Carl of Karnia. The Countess Olga in love with Karl is angered at the turn of events. Her secret love is known to the conspirators, who, making uso of the betrayal of Lavonian affairs through her letters to Karl, forces Olga to join them. She consents to find a way for tlie conspirators In kidnap the little Prince, knowing that when the. old king dies and the prince does not- appear before the people, according to custom, they will be able to sway the people. But to tell any more of litis drama would spoil the entertainment. A superb supporting programme will also be shown.
