AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CARLE ASSOCIATION LIGHT AEROPLANE CLUBS. LONDON, August If). Sir Philip Sasson. opened the London Light Aeroplane Clubs at Edgeware, making the inaugural flight. This is the first of six clubs to be established in England under the Air Ministry’s scheme. The membership of the London Club is limited to one hundred, and the limit lias already been reached. .Members are drawn from all classes and includes six ladies. Sir Philip Sasson predicted that flying would soon be a popular sport and should help the Ministry to attain the ideal of building up a nation of airmen. Twenty members to-day made hallhour flights. The delegates to the con fereiice of the .Miners’ Federation in London agreed with the executive’s view that despite the Government's refusal to accede to the Executive’s request for representation of the miners on the Commission of Inquiry, the Federation should participate in the enquiry and was accordingly instructed to present the miners’ case to the Commission. Authoritative circles in London are concerned over the action of the Canton Government in banning the free movement of British ships to and from Chinese ports, which, obviously, calls for some definite step on the part of Britain as it constitutes a flagrant- violation of the treaty rights of foreign Governments. Tn any case, it would merely entail the payment of a small registration fee if a man desired to practise in Britain.
