WESTJ.A XL SUB-UNION. Hie weekly meeting was held last evening at 8 o'clock. Present:—-Messrs K. McGregor (Chairman), Dowell, Cutbusb. Steele, l.awn, Moore, Stafford, Howut, Coulson and lleeuan. The Kelerees Association submitted recommendations for referees for matches on August 22nd as follows: Seniors: —Kiwis v. Excelsiors at 3 p.m., Mr 11. Dowell, •Juniors:—Kiwi v. Kaniori at 3 p.m., Mr is. \V. llcenan. Boss v. Kuniara at 3 p.m., at Kttmara, Mr I). Mclvor. Third Grade:—Kiwi. v. School at 1.30 p.m.. Mr C. Gaylor. II the Star lourth grade come down to play Excelsior third grade, the Kiwi-School game will have to be post-poned.-—The report was approved. Referee D. Mclvor reported having ordered oil ('. Fleming for punching an opposing player.—Received. The Referees Association forwarded the following resolution passed:—That (lie Referees Association views with deep concern the decision of your judicial Committee re the ordering off of two players by Referee Cutbusli. This Association maintains that it is not essential for the referee to note the exact positions of men when ordered off hv a referee. We maintain that the inability of the referee to note the position of players ordered off was not sulfieie.nl grounds for dismissing players without even a caution. We respectfully adc that your union review the whole matter as a body or failing this would you kindly forward all the facts of the ease to the parent body. Also when outside evidence is to he called that the Referees Association he notified and that as the rules distinctly stale that the referee is the sole judge of facts, this prevents any committee from calling rebuttal evidence.— Received. A general discussion followed, when Mr Station! moved that the ease lie referred back to the judicial Committee tor further consideration. Seconded by Mr Dowell. An amendment by Mr Coulson that the matter he adjourned sine die, was seconded by Mr llowat, but was later withdrawn and the motion was carried. Referee Mclvor reported that in the Aru hura-K anieri match at Aralmra last Saturday, owing to the ground not hem;: roped oil' it was not possible for him to keep the game going as ti:e spectators encroached on the playing field, Received. From Westland Rugby ITtion suggesting the South Canterbury match al Hokitika on Wednesday, September Kith and at Westport on .September 19th. -Received. It was resolved to purchase a typewriter til 22!). Accounts as tabled were passed lor payment and the meeting terminated.
