WESTLAND BRANCH. The annual meeting of the Westland Branch of tho Canterbury Automobile Association took placo early this month tho following members being present— Messrs It. E. Perliam (Presdient), Williams, Gnylor, Coulson, Turner, Bansgruve’, Elcock, Perry, Stuart, and Dr. T'eichelmann. ANNUAL REPORT. The President submitted the followreport: Since the last annual meeting which was held in August last year the Branch has done considerable work in a quiet way. By bringing under the notice of the local authority or other body coneeined any matter requiring immediate attention. much annoyance to motorists h:u been avoided and by the .same means we have been able to have apportions of the roads, which had become particularly had. promptly repaired. During the year “Danger” or “GoSlou” signs have been erected at nearly all the dangerous corners and lulls in the district, (signs have been erected at many schools and signs are being prepared for two other schools where the County Council have ofierce! to erect them if supplied. It is pleasing to note that the small creeks crossing the road between Ross and Hurihnri which the Committee had asked to ho bridged, have now been made to run through concrete pipes under the road. The Branch, by hearing part of the ccat of so doing, lias had the Lake Kanicri road much improved by baling Crayfish Bend widened so as to allow motorists approaching from either end a clear view. The South road has likewise been rendered more safe by clearing scrub off sharp cornel's. During the year the Committee has agitated for the completion of the Kumara-Awatuua Road and the Highways Board lias been urged to give the matter its immediate attention. The General Secretary who was over here last month stated the Highways Board Mould shortly visit here. He. advised that this brunch have a deputation wait on them when here to discuss the matter and promised to give us warning when they are to ho expected. During the year our membership lias more than doubled. At the end of last limumml year the membership was 29, and to date 39 new members have been elected. Our membership is now Co, one member, Father Kiordan lulling died, and one member having resigned. By each member taking an active interest in the allair.s ol the Branch it should he possible to increase tho membership to well over 100 before the close of the next financial year. The minutes of the previous annual meeting were I.lien read and continued. Aimed by Air Bansgruve and .seconded by Air Coulson that the sum of £5 ),e voted to the Hon. Secretary for clerical assistance during the past year.—Carried. .Moved by l)r. Tciehelmann that the annual report and balance' sheet as lead be adopted. Seconded by .MiTurner and carried. The following members were nominated and duly elected Air G. Gaylnr. and Air A. Chapman. Air ('milson moved that Dr. Teiche!inanti be elected Uresident for the on suing venr. A ntes of thanks were parsed to the Branch's representative on the Council (Air Sargent) and lo the AA'estlaud County Council for the use of the room. After considerable discussion had taken place as to the ability of the brunch to convey 20 uHirers of the American Fleet t.a the Glaciers it was resolved that the President and Secretary have power to make the necessary arrangements providing they did not commit the branch to an expenditure of not more than £5. Afr Coulson raised the matter of observance of the rules of the road, •stating cyclists were the worst offenders. The Secretary was instructed t> write the Borough Council drawing attention to the matter amt asking them in on force the by-law. The nice.ting then concluded with : vote of thanks to the Chair.
