A collision between a motor-cyclist and a cyclist on the J’iecarton Road, in the vicinity of Deans Bush, shortly after midnight on Saturday, resulted in the death of the cyclist-, whose identity had not been ascertained last, evening. The motor-cyclist was .Mr J!. Al' ll'.vraith. who was on his way home to Hornby from a party at Liu wood. Ho left i-iiiwood about midnight. When nearing Deans Bush lie saw a number of cyclists ahead of him, riding on their correct side of the mail. He went out to the right, ami passed them successfully. A little further on he noticed another cyclist tiding along near the centre of the road, on his correct side. T he motor-cyclist .swerved to get past, this man, but the cyclist swerved til,so, and the motor-cycle, a 7-h.p. Indian, struck the hack "heel of the cycle, and knocked the rider oil', and ran over Loth him and the cycle. The motorcyclist was throw'ii oil his machine by the impact, hut hi.- lauded on both feet. The cyclist, was conveyed to the hospital. hut he died before lie reached the institution. There was no evidence of idt■ 11 1ilictiiid'n beyond the fact that on his collar was the name F. 11. (Talk. Deceased was about twenty-four years of age. about .Jit. Tin in height, and had brown hair, inclined to lie curly, am! brushed straight hack. He had grey eyes, and was clean-shaven. He was wearing a black serge suit, and a military nveivoat dyed brown, a grey felt hat, and black lace-up hoots. On it chain were three keys am! a nickel open-faced watch. The police received no inquiries yes. terday regarding any person missing. The accident was reported to them by Air M’llwraith about two o’clock. Air M’llwraith staled that he was travelling at a speed of about eighteen miles per hour when the mishap occurred. The hack wlteel of the cycle wa ■ badly damaged, and a red reflector was torn off by the impact. FIRE AT R ANGIDRA. CHRISTCHURCH. August 17. Frank Reginald Hubhart was the name of the voting man who died from injuries received yesterday morning through being knocked olf his bicycle by a motor cyclist on Riccnrton Road. AUCKLAND BUKCDAIRY.
