The “Lyttelton Times” says that in view of the state of .Mr Wilford’s health, arrangements "ill probably have tu he made to carry on the leadership of the National Party at any rate temporarily though the matter lias not been formally discussed. It is expected Mr Wilford will ask for leave of absence. TUNNEL STRIKE SETTLED. AUCKLAND. August 12. A strike of men employed in tunnel work on Araptmi dam site lias been settled. The men resume work after being idle for three days. The terms of settlement are not disclosed.
SCHOONER ARRIVES. AUCKLAND, August 12. Advice has been received by the owners representative that the livemasted schooner H. K. Hal! from Newcastle to Callao arrived at its destination on Monday, having been delayed by gales, FATHER’S BAD TEMPER. He had a violent temper, which had got the better of him on several occasions. Sergeant Calwell said the accused was in regular employment. The Magistrate convicted Squire, and ordered him to conic up for sentence when called upon. “Now. you understand, il you conic up here again, you will get six mouths.” said Mr Hunt.
