POWER BOARDS CONFER.

Various matters affecting the common interests of the electrical power hoards throughout the dominion wero discussed at the annual conference of the Electric Power Board’s of Xew Zealand, which was Held to-day. The Chairman. Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., who presided over about forty delegap's, stated in his annual review that there were forty hoards or local body undertakings in the Association. At the instigation of Tarartia, the Boards have been given the power to reduce or increase the number of members. The conference agreed to a remit from Wanganui-Rangitikei Board providing for relief through Government assistance, of the burden on local bodies through the exchange on remittances of interest on loans to those domiciled in Australia, where it is mutually satisfactory. The Government is to lie asked to provide- an investing authority for any special funds that may bo set aside hv Power Boards.

The Conference considers the Government. should set an example and connect up its own buildings and employees’ residences with the Power Board’s supplies. It was stated that the railway buildings were usually last to connect. In eases where trees are likely to prove 'dangerous to electrical works, and to the supply of current, power is t-oing asked for Boards to cut them down at the expense of the owner and also to cut hack overhanging branches. The Boards consider that an award covering all the Boards’ employees, irrespective of their particular trade would lie in their interests. A decrease on the duty on electrical appliances is to he urged. Mr E. A. Ransom (Dannevirkc) said that in many eases, it was impossible to discern whether goods were British or German. A distinguishing mark should he imprinted on the article. A proposal from Xew Plymouth borough to confer upon Municipal Councils all the powers of Boards under the Act, was vetoed, as was a suggestion to exempt Power Board vehicles from heavy traffic by-laws.
