The intricate commercial mechanism which collects the food of the people from the uttermost parts of the earth and places it with untailing icgularity day by day in tens of thousands of shops may well excite wonder that the machine works with so little friction, anil admiration for those who faithfully and punctually serve the public. 011 the other hand, it is apparent that those who run the machine possess great power, and it is not unnatural to suspect, and very easy to allege. that they misuse their power to the detriment of Die public.
