MONDAY, J LEV 20th. A meeting of the Executive Committee was held at the County Chambers at 8.0 p.m. Present: Mr '! . W. Bruce (Vice President). Messrs Mclntosh. Evans. Maclarhinc. Wilson, Pilkington. Ciqitv (station-master), and Dr Teichelmann.
The Chairman apologised lor the altseitcc of Mr Dull' (President!, and Messrs Jeffries. Butler and Dalgiiesh. and tendered a welcome to Mr Craw, who attended the meeting oil behalf of the Bailway Department. The outward correspondence was approved. 1N W AI! D CO HP. ES POND E NOE. From Professor Kasterlield. Cawthron institute. Nelson, replying regarding soil survey in Westland, and stating it was believed a practicable scheme was possible to treat Westland soils.— Received. Mr Evans moved that the Member for Westland he asked to confer with the Member for Nelson, and support a request for a Government grant equal to the interest derived from tint death duties paid over on account of the Cawthron Institute for soil survey purposes on the West Coast. Dr Teieheliuann seconded the motion which was carried.
Front Canterbury Progress League recommending the completion of the East Coast railway between Canterbury and Marlborough as a work ol first importance. —Received.
