ALL SAINTS’ MEMORIAL CHURCH.
.MEETING OF PARISHIONERS. A mceling of parishioners ot All Saint’s Church was held at the Town Hall last night. There was an attendance of about one hundred. Hev. .1. Perkins, vicar, presiding. The meeting was opened with prayer and tile Chairman outlined what had been done so far towards undertaking the .Memorial Church. The recent destruction of the Sunday School building necessitated some action, as it was felt there should he a Parish Hall and with the building of the .Memorial Church, the present Church would become available for school and meeting purposes, lie urged strongly that the Church people should undertake the new building as a memorial, and possess something in every way worthy the purpose intended. Air . B. Ward read the report from the recently appointed Building Committee, recommending that a fresh guarantee list should he opened: that a Church fete be held annually; and that a brick scheme to raise funds be started.
Hon. H. L. .Michel spoke at length in favor of the building scheme. He stated there was £3OOO in sight now, and if a further guarantee of £1,500 was obtained, it would be practicable to borrow £1,500 from the Church pro|>erty trustees and the £OOOO available would enable the work to lie started, ensuring the erection of the major portion of the edifice. He felt sure the Church people could accomplish the task which had been outlined and on behalf of Airs Alirhel and himself promised, a substantial donation to the fund. The Vicar also stated he would contribute all lie could to the purpose, and in apologising for the unavoidable absence of some Church members, mentioned they had forwarded or had promised .additional contributions to the fund.
A general discussion ensued and it was resolved that the report of the Building Committee he received and adopted, and tho Coiunnnittee he authorised to proceed on the lines suggested. the foundation stone if possible to be laid next Anzae Day. Various suggestions for augmenting tlie funds were nut forward, and if was resolved to ask the ladies' to assist in various ways, (hi a show ol hands being called for. all present promised to assist individually in the various schemes to raise the funds desired. About £250 was guaranteed in the room.
