He was accompanied by a man named Allbriglit. Sewell left Blanlogie in a gig, and when near Kahiiiningi the .saddle strap of tlie harness broke and I the shafts fell to the ground, Sewell • being thrown out on bis head. He was | removed to the hospital where ’no died ±his morning. PROGRESSING. HAMILTON. July 20. Mrs Voting, wife of .Mr J. A. Young ALP., who was knocked down by a car on Friday night and seriously injured, i- progressing favourably. The doctors are hopeful of her recovery. WOMAN’S SUDDEN DEATH. HAMILTON. July 20. Mrs Gillett, wife of George Gillett. proprietor of the Commercial Hotel, died suddenly yesterday with heart failure. She had been in ill-health for some time, but the end was unexpected. Gillett was one of the lt)05 All . Blacks. NEW BROADCASTING COY. ARRANGEMENT WITH GOVERNMENT. WELLINGTON July 20. The. Government has made an agreement. with it new broadcasting company belonging, it is understood, to Wellington, for the erection by tlie Coy., of a 500 watt output station in each of Lite four cities and the maintenance of an efficient service. The Company will receive 25s out. ol each .'llls per license fees paid for by broadcasting licenses and a similar proportion of radio traders and other fees. The Government has been temporarily subsidising the existing broadcast .stations until the national scheme hati been evolved. The negotiations have been dragging on for months without effect and this new company has now stepped in. Tlie power of the stations wiSI render programmes audible in Australia and ever further afield.

FIRE ON STEAMER. DARCARVILI.E. July 20
At an early lumr this morning a lire was discovered ill the engine-room of the small steamer Pioneer belonging to the Northern Wairoa Dairying Ciimpanv. Fortunately there was a deck hantl on hoard at tin- time who immediately gave the alarm. The fire brigade turned out in double quick time and extinguished the fire, lull not before it- had done considerable damage to the engine room and the men’s rooms. Because they cannot agree to sign the pledge required by the Labour Party. Canterbury General l-abourers Union have withdrawn all their delegates from the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee.
