Motor vehicles continue to he imported into New Zealand at an inereasiup rati*, aeconlintr to a report specially compiled by the Comptroller or Custom-. The figures for the first -ix months uf this year show that on all averane 4oS vehicles are enterinc the Dnmiiiion every week. The actual figures showed a total of 11.022 vehicles. of the value of £2.207.027. Hetunis for the eorrespomlitig period pt the previous year showed a total <)1 0380 vehicles,' the aggregate value bes inc £7.707.280. The increase is thus 2550 vehicles, the increase in value bciuir £.Vi0.747. if importations continue for the remainder of the year at the same rate as for the first six
months, the rear’s importations will easily eclipse those for 1924, when 18,029 vehicles came into the country, the total value being estimated at £3,037.o7B< Motor vehicle's include cars, lorries, vans, trucks, ’buses, and also chassis, the bodies for which are built locally. Canada again leads the countries from which Now Zealand imports her motor veieles. During the half ye;r •‘>92l vehicles came from Canada, 4907 from the United States, and 1873 from Britain. t hassis for heavy vehicles are also being imported at an encouraging rate. As a matter of fact the value of the chassis imported from Knglnnd during Ihe half-year was greater than Canada, though the number was smaller. An interesting feature of the heavy vehicle importations is that the I todies for nearly all the vehicles, such as lorries, vans, trucks or ’buses are generally built in New Zealand. Taking the imuorts for the first six months of this year eighty-five fully equipped lorries came into the country, while the number of chassis was 148;".
