This would lower I he water 12 or In inches where we can get a gravel pil on our road reserve. 'the gravel al the present time is one foot hove water level. This will give two fee! of gravel 1 t chains wide by n
chains long. This will be a splendid asset along this road, as gravel has to be carted about 3 miles, We visited McArthur road, now under construction, the contractor making a first-class job it it. I interviewed Mr Jones re gravel reserve and finally came to an agreement by Council exchanging gravel reserve and paying £lO for 1 acre. This being tt splendid gravel site, I strongly advise the Council to accept this offer. OVERSEER’S SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT. T have, the honour to report that the erosion of the southern bank of Kokatnlii river lias increased considerably since last inspection, threatening Koiterangi road. The old channel near the centre of the river was inspected for about 7o chains in lengh above the line of the ford crossing Kokaiahi river. At tin’s point the river diverteo from its old channel to the south hank, causing the erosion. A few pounds expended in diverting a portion of the stream by the removal of a shingle hank at tlie* channel inlet will have the effect of lessening the damage. hut will not prevent the erosion extending and destroying the road during the spring Hoods, unless the river bank is protected at a cost of C2CO. owing to the channel where the diversion has taken place, discharging its water during half flood into the present stream opposite the erosion.
