The movement which is being taken in hand to undertake the erection of a \V iir Memorial Church to replace All •Saints, is one that is sure to secure much practical public sympathy. All Saints was one of the earliest churches established here, and has been always a centre of religious activity. Associated with the church were many notable clergymen from Archdeacon Harper onward who took a personal interest in general affairs. The new church which it is proposed to erect, i.s estimated to cost in the region of £I<MKX). The proposal is to have half this amount in hand by An/.ac Day of next, year when it is desired to lay the foundation stone of the new edifice. The Memorial Church is to he built at tlie corner of Bealev and Stafford Streets, where 'the foundation is considered more satisfactory than the site of the present Church, which will he retained and converted into a Sunday School and Church meeting place. The new Church will lie built of rubble stone, and will be a permanent structure. The new building has been designed and the plans approved. The budding committee bent on accomplishing the election of the new Church is now laying its plans to raise the additional money required to ensure a commencement being made with building operations. The building will be a striking addition to the local architecture, and public interest- is sure To he general in the progress of the work. No doubt there will he numerous appeals, and with a response in keeping with the object in mind, the realisation of the aim in view should not be long postponed. There should lie a liberal contribution to tile appeal now being launched.
