A WONDERFUL PAGEANT.
(Received this day at 11.25 a.mY LONDON, July 2. The history of railway traction was epitomised in a remarkable Centenary Pageant this afternoon on the Stockton -Darlington line on which Stevenson’s old colliery “Puffing Billy ’ constructed in 1822 led the procession, (i miles in length, followed immediately and in striking contrast by the modern “Flying Scotsmen.’’ But the most popular feature was the first passenger engine called “Locomotion Number One’’, in which the driver wore a coloured tail coat and two foot top hat as was the custom when the engine was commissioned in 1825. The Duke of York unveiled a tablet commemorating booking by the first passenger in 1825-
