FRAUD CHARGE FAILS
ALLEGED MINE “SALTING.” NEW ZEALANDER ACQUITTED OTTAWA. June. “I. After a long trial at Winnipeg, Joseph Myers, of New Zealand, who was arrested months ago in England, was acquitted on a charge of alleged I rand, lie had been accused of “sailing” the Bingo gold-mine. Myers, who is a New Zealander, held the position of manager of the Bingo goldmines. Early in the present year, while on a visit to London, he was arrested at his hotel oil a charge of “salting” the property. When the trial began the Crown Solicitor stated that. Mr Myers was charged with potting forward false assays, and added: “Unless we cun prove these assays were false, and that Mvers know they were false, the Crown fails.” Mr R. A. Itonnnr, K.C.. who appeared lor Mr Myers, declared: •'These charges are based on financial interests, and. while my learned friends are not. a party to the scheme, this is a bogus prosecution for the purpose of exploiting some financial deal.” Mr Boimar asserted that the action against Mr Myers was part of the operations hv United (states capitalists to score British iotensts from the fields. There had been no “salting.” “I propose.” lie said, “to prove to you that this is a bogus prosesution for the purpose of exploiting some financial deal. AVc have direct evidence that the Bingo mine is good. and was then, since is to-dav. 1 will prove this prosecution is an efiort on the part of certain interests to get this mine for nothing, and I don t want British capital to he fooled h.v Americans. While my learned friends of the prosecution are not a party to Dos scheme, 1 propose to slmw them that Bingo is a real, first-class mine.
