ANNUAL MEETING. HA AYER A, June 30. The South Taranaki winter show was opened this afternoon by the Hon R. F. Bollard. 'Tho weather was unfavourable, nevertheless, large numbers of people were in town for the show. In connection with the show the annual meeting of the National Dairy Association was held here, 280 delegates from all parts of the Dominion being present. Tho proceedings were presided over by Mr J. B. Murdoch, deputy-chairman. The Hon. R. F. Bollard was present at the opening stages.
The Mayor, .Mr K. A. Pacev, briefly welcomed the delegates and the Minister. The latter, in replying, remarked upon the value of the dairying industry to the Dominion, and expressed a. hope that farmers would support dairy control, and give it a fair show. He advised caution in financial matters, and urged the producers to pul something away for a rainy day. The cow hail saved the country in 1921, and might do so again. The chairman, in the course ol li.is address, stressed the necessity of increasing tile huttor-l'at average, and improving the quality oi pastures. Diseases of dairy stock represented another big question. Attention should he given to improving the industry generally. lie said that efforts should he made to improve the conditions ol farmers, and towards the development of side-lines.
