GOODS ELL WINS BY THREE LENGTHS. [Australia A X.Z. Cable Association.] SYDNEY, June 28. Many thousands lined the banks of the Parramatta River yesterday in fine but dull weather, to witness the contest for the world’s sculling championship between Goodsell and Hannan. Approaching the Gasworks Goodsell led liv ten lengths, while Hannan appeared to hi in distress. although the pace was an easy one. His hurst, however, was only a flash in the pan; but Hannan nevertheless began in make strenuous efforts to reduce his opponent’s lead, but it was a vain effort, Goodsell keeping in advance. Apparently rowing without strain, Goodsell kept well in the lead, until, near ihe finish, when he eased up. He won by three lengths. Tlie time was SI min. .‘flsees. The first mile was covered in fitnin. (sees. Hannan’s time was 21min. 35secs. The race was disappointing to Hannan's supporters, its the New Zealander never once looked like a winnor. Ooodscll took command at the start and had complete control of the race.
