OUTBREAK OF FIRE.

ALL SAINTS SCHOOL GUTTED. The lirehell rang out an alarm of lire this morning at .5..5 o’clock. The scene of the outbreak was All Saints Sunday Schoolroom at the corner of Bealey and Stafford Streets. The fire Imd a good hold when the Brigade arrived. hut a lead of water soon had the outbreak under control, hut the building was practically gutted. Miss M. Davies who uses portion of the building for her music pupils was in the building lasi night up to 9 o’clock, and when .-die left- everything appeared secure. There i- only one fire stove in the building, hut this portion was the least damaged showing the fire did not originate the re from. Tlio Rutbreak appears to have started in the corner of the enclosed portion of the verandah and it spread rapidly to the roof running along to all portions of the structure which was badly gutted. Miss Davies had two pianos and a quantity of furniture in her room. One piano, on the stage was badly damaged by fire and water, hut the ■other was practically undamaged, though it was not got out till the fire was under control. The building is stated to be insured' for £l-50 by the Church Property Trustees in Christchurch while Miss Davies had an insurance of £-50 on each of her two pianos, one in the Southern Union, and the other in the National Office. The fire appears to he another of those wanton occurrences that have destroyed quite a number of the old landmarks of the town, and the passing of this structure will he deplored by many, who have very pleasant recollections of happenings therein in years gone by.
