Manv Labour demonstrations took place throughout the country yesterday -.'Saturday) prolesting against tho continuance of the unemployment in Britain. One gathering, held in Trafalgar Square, London, carried banners inscribed: “Justice—Not Charity!” “Work or Maintenance!” Resolutions were adopted demanding the provision of socially useful work, and meanwhile an allowance of thirty shillings weekly for adult males, ten shillings for wives, and live shillings for each child. TRADE IN BRITAIN. LONDON. June 23. About eight millions sterling of new loan issues were made this morning. They included one ot three millions two hundred thousand preference shares in the Union Cold Storage Coy., for the purpose of repaying loans, and providing further working capital. The Beardmorc Company report a nett loss on the year after the payment. of debenture interest, of five hundred and three thousand sterling. No allowance is made for the depreciation of machinery. A dividend for preference shares however, has been passed. The Workman Clark Company had a loss for this year, including the amount of debenture interest not paid, one hundred and eighty two thousand sterling, making a total deficit of L'2.07'1,92-j. The directors state that it is only possible to keep their yards partially open, by making contracts at prices showing a small margin. The cash in hand is onlv .C 892.
