GTSHOHNE. .June E Information now disclosed shows the small steamer "Orewa.’’ hound front Auckland to Hokitika, which put into Gisborne a few days ago. for repairs, had a perilous experience. The vessel was hndl.v strained, and was making water to such an extent that coal could not he taken from the hunkers in the usual way. hut had to be taken front the hatchways on deck, and carried in kerosene tins to the Hooded stokehold. Heavy seas were encountered, and at one time it was feared the steamer would not survive. a lifehoni being got. ready for emergency. However, port was reached, and repairs were effected. The vessel hut night resumed her voyage to llokilika.
