Tin-: filial hollies on the toast, or such of them as are co-oper-ting in regard to representation at the Exhibition :if Dunedin, should soon he moving i. regard to district exhibits. It appears that Duller and Jnangahun Counties have withdrawn from the idea of general Coast co-operation. That leaves Grey and West-land to take tip tii task, and of those districts, the fin bodies which have agreed to co-operate financially are Greymouth Borough Council, Greymouth Harbor Board, Westland County Council, and Hokitika Borough Council. The guarantees by these bodies total about- £‘6oo in all, but it should he pxissihlc to s cure some financial help from loci, exhibitors disposed to throw in their lot with the local bodies. To do the district adequate justice, and to get the I>cst out of the Exhibition from an advertising point of view, a larger sin. "ill he required, and those on win, lithe responsibility of directing the matter rests .should now move without ifi lay. The advantage to be gained will depend oil what is spent, and ill that connection the oft- quoted assertion that- “it pays to advertise,” must in borne in mind. An interested committee should he set up, and every endeavour should he made to augment the funds available by subscriptions and donations from husmess people "ishtul of using a special opportunity to the host advantage. The Exhibition is going to he oil a grand stale, and will attract patrons from far and wide. There is no reason why visitors to New Zealand as well as our own people travelling up and down the Dominion on holiday, should not he reminded of the attractions of the Coast, and induced tii divert their holiday tours to enjoy the unrivalled natural features which abound in the district.

It is to he hoped the adjourned annual meeting of the Mestlaiui Progress League to-night will not fail on this occasion to attract a quorum. The work which such an organisation is capable of doing for the advancement of i place is limited only by its aetivii. It should he possible therefore to nt:i" tain an active League the work of which all through the year will unflagging in the general interests of the community. But those "ho are prepared to co-operate in the public interests for the general good should have the fullest encouragement from the public as a whole. The or cast of the annual meeting affords the opportunity of expressing encouragement and of augmenting the committee of management, and so assist the better to carry on the work of the League. Such a body has not q set comrpission.

Its constitution is wide enough to embrace all interests, and all classes should seek representation so that none may he neglected. A Progress League is essentially what the people make of it. and that being so, tonight there is the opportunity for this community as it were, to make a lresh beginning, and by attendance and -import help in a practical way to augment the work of the League. Such a body, too. needs finance. That is a most essential aid to sustained good work, ami in this respect those who may not have the time, may at least tin 1 another practical way of helping those who are giving their time to work over a wider sphere for larger results. To-night is the opportunity for help and tow nsj oojile should not allow the ( bailee to he neglected.
