EDUCATION OF BOVS. AUCKLAND. -May IS. “You can rest assured that there is nothing whatever the matter with the boys of Australia and New Zealand to-day. They are difficult to handle, but they are clean and are thorough gentlemen.” This tribute to the schoolboys was paid by Mr 11. S. Dettman. bead master of tbe Sydney Grammar School in an address to over SCO members and guests at the Auckland Orphans’ Clitli. The schoolboy was of the slutf that the Amines were made of. stated Mr Dettman. He recalled incidents that went to show that the schoolboy had pluck and grit. “T had a hoy on the mat and was told lie was no good,” he said. “I gave him a chance, and two weeks later that hoy was unflinchingly standing up to a terrible heating in the ring, lie had good in him.” They had all read of the new ideas and new theories on education. Mr It. <L 'Veils had advanced now schemes, hut lie knew nothing about: education. “The right path to education, is the path you yourselves trod.” (Applause). Air Dettman went on to say that discipline was absolutely necessary. Real discipline was not inconsistent with real freedom.
