He took this as an insult, as lie had served two terms on the Committee and was entitled to have been consulted. Mr Robert sou said he was quite prepared to serve as an ordinary member of the Committee.
The Mayor said he followed the established custom in naming ( nairimn. He thought Mr Robertson was the best man. but he welcomed a discussion. After a lengthy discussion a motion was carried that the Committees should appoint their Chairmen. The Mayor's allowance was fixed at SPEEDING UP OPPOSED. CHRISTCHURCH. .May 3.'.
