TUPLE SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIPS. ■WELLINGTON, April 5. The Secretary cf tlie National Rifle Association has received advice that Cabinet has approved of the holding of the annual championship meeting at Trent hunt. The meeting usually takes place in March of each year, hut on account of the infantile paralysis epidemic this year the gathering was postponed. Arrangements are now being mado for the meeting to commence on May Ist. A MOTOR FATALITY. AUCKLAND, April 6. At Ellerslic on Sunday afternoon i ear driven by .Miss Marjorie Hopper, went over the bank, ill's L. Hopper ■sustained .serious injuries to her back and died in the hospital. Miss Hopper suffered a scalp wound, which is not serious. Airs W. J. Buttorwinth, of Ellerslie had her jaw fractured. Mr Hopper had it collarbone broken. Air Lutterworth, a severe bruising. The ear was badly damaged. A cottage ‘destroyed. WAIAI ATE April 0. A two-roomed cottage, owned and occupied by Aliss Cummings, was destroyed by fire at one this morning. The cottage is believed to be uninsured.

WANGANUI, April 6. Yesterday morning Constable A\ illetiN, of Waitotara, two lads named Newman and Reimonselineitler, and Rowe sent-., set out from Waitotara on a ilisbing expedition in a thirty foot boat which was abandoned bv the steamer Port Caroline on a rough night when Mime ol the crew uttempted the rescue of a seamen who had jumped overboard, and great anxiety prevailed last night when the Wailntuitu party failed to return. April 6The Waitotara. fishing party had a terrible experience while admit last ni'dit. It appears an effort was made to' reach Wanganui.
