The Mystery or Like. “About a year ago the British Medical Journal” published a remarkable paper by Sir James Mackenzie, which was a plea for the study of ‘the Vital Force.’ What he told of his own i searches was enough to show that lile is a physical force, as open to exploration as light, or magnetism, or any other natural force around us, ii not closely related to some of them. But it does not .seem improbable that before the physicist gets to the bottom of it. or as near as lie can. he will have to postulate hypotheses about something very minute, ju.st as he postulates atoms and electrons, and their sizes and motions, to explain the atomic weights of the elements.” — “Truth.”
