To-night there was a fifteen-round professional light-weight contest between 11. I.eekie (Dunedin) and \Y. J. Sycamore (Invercargill! for a purse of Oii siv.s. The contest was won by t!;e former, on points, the light going the full distance.
The men were evenly matched. The contest resolved itself into a battle of styles. Sycamore preferring boxing of the fast open order, while i.eekie exploited his favourite infighting tactics. I.eekie was too clever for his opponent, and was ahead by a fair margin of points at the iinish. although Sycamore made repeated but fruitless attempts to laud a knock-out over tlx final stages. The decision met with a mixed reception.
