John Thomas Martin, against whom a charge of murder was laid in connection with the death of the lad Kendrick at Stratford on March ISth, was brought before the Magistrate to-day when the charge was reduced to one of manslaughter. A remand was granted to Stratford on the 30th .March. Kendrick was picked up on the roadside in a dying condition his injuries being apparently due to a collision with a motor car. UNDER THE RED. AUCKLAND. March 2fi. Reginald John Massey, aged 21, pleaded guilty at the Police Court to two charges of breaking and entering and theft and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. In one case a boardinghouse keeper stated ho was awakened by a noise at 2 a.m. and said a man’s foot under the bed. He ordered the intruder to come out and accused replied—" Rut your hands up . IU ,I l mill.” Accused then bolted with witness in pursuit. Accused climbed a tree, witness and his dog following. Boarders watched beneath the tree till Ike police ill-lived and Massey was taken into custody.
