The New South Wales Assembly passed the Marriage Law Amendment Bill through all stages, and sent the measure to the Legislative Council, which will deal with it on Thursday night. Mr Lang (Labour Leader) submitted an amendment to the vital clause. •The clause in question reads "Every person who commits offence, and is liable to conviction, and to a penalty of one hundred sterling, and to imprisonment not exceeding twelve months, who alleges any persons lawfully married are not truly and sufficiently mar- * vied }i Mr Lang’s amendment added to this clause the worlds:—“Are not truly and sufficiently married according to the laws of the State.” The Labour Leader appealed, to the Government to accept this amendment, and thereby show its sincerity. Mr Ley, in reply said: There is no need for‘the amendment, as the clause was exnlicit and said what it meant. There were several heated Labour speeches in favour of Mr Langs amendment.
