VALEDICTORY.

Air J. S. Turner, of the Westland Stamp Duties and Deeds Departments who has been transferred to the Lands anil Deeds Department at Wellington, was yesterday larewellod by the staff at tlie local office. Air Adams (District Land Registrar) on behalf of the staff and various people who have had considerable dealings with the Stamp Office, presented Air Turner with a wristlet watch, and stated that Afr Turner had occupied a responsible position in Hokitika for six years anil had proved a capable and most reliable officer. When Air Adams took change at Hokitika his predecessor, Air A!organ had strongly recommended -Mr Turner ns an efficient officer, and Afr Adams had found that Air Turner fully deserved the praises of his previous chief. He wished him. good luck and speedy promotion. Air Adams apologised for the absence of Afessrs Jeffries, Houston and James King.

Air AY. Wilson representing the licensed land brokers wished Air Turner farewell and stated that he had seen quite a lot of Air Turner at the office, and always found him courteou.4 and obliging. Air Ailken, Afanager of the Bank of New Zealand, took the opportunity of congratulating Air Turner, anil said that lie was always very pleased to see AYest Coast boys advancing in their professions, and hoped ere long to see Mr Turner in a higher position, to which Ills zeal and energy entitled him. Air Turner in reply thanked the District Land Registrar and the other speakers for their good wishes and words of praise. He regretted leaving the district and valued highly the present they had given to him. After the Supreme Court sitting the members of the Hokitika Bar consisting of Messrs Bark, Murdoch, AYells, Sellers, Pilkiiiglon and El cock met Air Turner at tlio Public Buildings nnd presented him with a gold mounted fountain pen and an autographed letter to show their appreciation of Air Turner’s uniform, courtesy and ability in the discharge of his office during lii.s six years-sojourn in Hokitika. -Mr Park, as President of the Hokitika Law Society made the presentation and in a few well chosen words expressed the good wishes of those present for Mr Turner’s advancement anil prosperity. Air Turner suitably replied.
