WESTLAND PROGRESS LEAGUE.
MONDAY, MARCH 23rd
The Committee met at 7.35 p.lll. Present—. Messrs T, W. Bruce (president), J. C. Macfarlane, T. W. Duff, C. iS. Dalgleish, D. J. Evans, J. W. Morris, J. .J. .Mclntosh, and Dr Teichelinniin. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed, and the outward correspondence was approved. IX WA R D C()RRESPONDFXCE. From Southland League, notifying conference tit Invercargill on April 28, and asking for remits.—-Received. The President said the date was not suitable. It was resolved to ask Messrs Goss and Climie to represent the branch at the conference. From Hokitika Borough Council, granting £5 towards booklet.—Received with thanks. From Ross Borough Council, regretting funds were not available at present for advertising.—Received. From R. R. Climie, forwarding account for printing booklets.— Received. It was staled £25 was only oustanding. and would be payable .immediately, GENERAL. The President referred to the recent visil of Mr Jeffries and himself to Blenheim, when the claims of completing the Tn|.ilmuse road from Marlborough to the West Coast wore preferred. The co-operation of the League was asked in urging that the road be put in order for motor trail'll’. The President favoured support of the proposal which would he of special advantage to North Westland. This was agreed to, and it was resolved to ask the co-operation of the parent League in the mat ter. 'I lie Secertary (Mr Morris) reported lie had been through the route lately. The road was not in good condition for some distance. The cost involved in regard to the road would not he very great. Dr Teiehelmann supported the application from the Marlborough Longue. It. was resolved to write Mr It. It. Sword, District Traffic Manager, who is retiring from the Groyninuth office at the end of Hie month, on promotion to Christchurch, thanking him for his attention to the requirements of the disriet in the matter of train services.
Messrs Mclntosh, McKay. Macfarlane and Bruce were appointed to co-operate in regard to securing the continuous telephone for the town. Tlie meeting concluded at 8.20 p.in.
