A WELCOME GIFT

g 150 DONATION. At a meeting of the Trustees of the Hokitika Savings Rank yesterday, a deputation from the Trustees ol the Hokitika Library and Museum waited on the meeting, and detailed the position of the building which required attention. The architect's estimate lot the work in sight was LMoO, and the available funds for this were very meagre. as last year about U 350 had to lie spent in renewing the whole ol the roof of the buildings, while the previous year over £2OO had beta spent in the nurchase of material for the work. Tim deputation placed details ot what had been dene before the Trustees, and left, the request for financial assistance to the meeting to decide what amount might in the special circumstances he granted. The Trustees debated the matter and final 1 v decided out of the accrued profits of the Rank to make a grant of Clot) to the Trustees of the Library and Museum for the improvement of the Free Library Building. This welcome and generous gilt will be appreciated by the community as a whole, testifying as it does to the good work of the Bank in distributing its accrued profits to so useful a public purpose. No doubt those responsible for the conduct of the I'i'ee Library and the upkeep of the building, will in particular appreciate the value ol the donation, for it relieves the management of much anxiety as to the satisfactory upkeep of the interior ot tin building now that improvements have been effected outside.
