Spencer and Phil O'Shea. The crowd were disappointed through an unfortunate mishap in the first event, the quarter mile, in which O’Shea, who was suffering from the eJfecLs of a fall at Christchurch, appeared in bandages. He rode well, however, when he warmed tip, and he soon had a lead from Spencer. This lie increased, and ho entered the straight looking certain to win. Then Spencer fell, 'at a had turn at the straight entrance. O’Shea glanced round, just afterwards, and he also crashed. O’Shea broke bis collarbone. Spencer later rode a couple of exhibition races with Nicholson (Auckland) whom lie heat comfort ably.
