The Chamber of Commerce resolved not to support the protest of the Canterbury Chamber against the action ot the Dairy Control Board, regarding the marketing of produce overseas, a.s the matter is one for the dairy industries to decide.
RIFLE AIEKTING POSTPONED. WELLINGTON, .March 12
The National Rifle Association meeting. which, under normal circumstances. would have commented to-day at Trentham has boon postponed indefinitely on account of the paralysis epidemic. The Secretary states that the executive now must await the pleasuio of the Health Department, but as soon a.s tbc ban is lifted every effort will be made to bold the meeting about a. fortnight afterwards. It will take a few days to notify all memljcrs and competitors. Had the ban been raised yesterday the meeting would hare been held on the twenty-sixth of ALnreh.
SHIPPING SPACE RECEIVED. WELLINGTON. .March 11
Air T. C. Brash, secretary of the N. Z. Dairy Produce Control Board, advises that application lias been made to the Overseas Shipowners' Allotment Committee, for space for butter and cheese shipments in April, as follows: 285,500 boxes of butter and 94,250 crates of cheese. The Allotment Committee now advise that it has alloteil space for the above quantities in the steamers leaving New Zealand in April and earlv in .May.

COM. ENQUIRY. E Vll >KN C’ E AT AI'C'KI -A ND. AUCKLAND. Alareh 12. The Cent Inquiry Board met at Auckland this morning. The Hun. Mr Alison, representing the Tnupiri Coal Coy., said the company employed about 270 men and the output was about 2,560 tons per week, which Could he increased if a market Was available for. steam coal of which there was about 40 per cent. The Government. took for a. long time about twenty thousand tons yearly till 1922. The next year there was a falling off to the extent of 13.980 tons and it was stated that this was due to the miners not keeping up ihe output, the Government lieing compelled to import large quantities of coal. He was aware that fire boxes bail been altered to suit the imported coal. The capital in the lour market collieries totalled L‘ 161.009 and the employees and their dependant' numbered three thousand. Coal was totalled at 5.099,999 tons. The four companies were prepared to (.niltract for delivery to the Government of 5309 tons of s Tcencd idea in coal anitiin 11 v.
The Chairman said that what he had seen of the so-called steam coal here seemed good for kitchen purposes.

The South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce last night passed a resolution condemning absolute control oi dairy produce, ’the resolution was couched in similar terms to that passed bv the Dunedin Chamber. The watersiders at Lyttelton this morning again gave notice ot their intention not to work overtime. ’I he port is congested anil there is a big shortage of labour. KILLED BY TRAIN. AUCKLAND, March 12. .Mrs Catherine Rogue, a resident of New Lynn, was struck by a train while talking to a friend at Portage road railway crossing. She was killed Instantly. Her view of the line was obstructed by trees. The engine driver is stated to have sounded a warning whistle when approaching the crossing.
SUPPOSED DROWNING. AUCKLAND. March 12,
Allan Gillespie, aged 53. a storekeeper at Campbell Ray, Takapuna, was capsized in a dinghy while fishing at eight last night and he is believed to have been drowned. The police dragged for two hours unsuccessfully.
THE TAHITI DELAYED. WELLINGTON, March 12
The latest information regarding the delay of the Tahiti on account of the storm at Raratonga is that the vessel is expected to leave for Wellington this morning. A party of sojne forty passengers, including the All Blacks, were ashore yesterday when the vessel put to sea. It was hoped to pick up the passengers this morning. There is little chain e of the Tahiti reaching Wellington before Tuesday morning. CONFIDENCE TRICK. PALMERSTON N„ March 12. At the Police Court, Robert Howden, a well dressed young man, was charged with robbing Stanley Gibson of €73 pounds. The police alleged that Gibson robbed by means of a confidence trick on the part of three men. two of whom escaped. Accused was committed lor trial.

When the Union Coy’s Navua berthed at Lyttelton this morning, an alarm was given that there was a fire in No 3 hold.' 7 ' The brigade turned out and the hatches were lifted, when dense volumes of smoke issued .from ’tween decks. After 40 minutes work, sufficient cargo had been taken out to let the firemen into the hold, and the I,lake was put out just before it readied cases of matches. CONG REGATI ON AL UNION. TIMARU. March 12.
The Congregational Union meetings ope ml last evening and were attended by a record number of delegates. Speeches of welcome were delivered by the Mayor, Mr J. J. Wallace and Mr F . j. Rolleston, M.P., and Ministers of other denominations. This morning five new ministers were received into the Union. The Rev. George Hughwav (Auckland) and the Rev. VSaunders (Dunedin) were elected life members. The secretary’s report showed a distinct forward movement and development during the year.
