MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
THURSDAY, AIARCIi 12th. (Before AY. Afeldrum Esq., S.AL,) • CROSSING RAILWAY LINE. Railway Department (Air Park) charged Cornelius V. O’Neill that when driving a motor, he did not slacken speed when crossing the railway line, and crossed in front of a shunting engine at a. pace of over 10 miles an hour. Defendant did not appear. Frederick Carl Graham gave evidence- that on Fd). 2nd., he was engaged iu shunting operations'at Meld Street and saw the car come along without slowing down and crossed the rails. A shunting engine doing (i miles an hour, had to put on the brakes to stop running down the motor car.
Sergt. King gave evidence to serving defendant with a summons and lie admitted lie was the person and lie had driven across the railway lino at the time stated. Defendant was convicted and fined •£1 and costs 17s, counsel’s fee £3 3s. AIACHINERY ACT. Inspector ol Alacliinery charged L. H. AI orcl (Air Park) with running an oil engine without having a certificate therefore. A plea of guilty was entered, the certificate having since been paid for. Fined 10 and costs 17s fid. WANDERING CATTLE. Borough Inspector (Air Park) v. S. Breeze allowing two cows to wander. Fined 20s and costs bs fid. Same v. F. Preston 1 cow, lined 20s and costs 17s fid. CYCLING AYTTHOUT LIGHT. Same v. James Routhan, a charge of riding a bicycle after sunset out a light. Fined 5s and costs li» 6d. Same v. Win. Rowe, similar charge. Fined 5s and costs 17s fid. LICENSING ACT. The police charged a resident with being on licensed premises (Bed Lion Hotel), during prohibited hours. Ordered to pay costs 7s. DEFENCE ACT. Samuel P. Evans charged with i'ailin<r to register under the Defence Act, pleaded not guilty. His AVorship said n technical offence had been committed but tlie boy bad acted very fairly. A conviction without fine would be entered. • DEBT CASES. Westland Hospital Board v. R. G. Honey, claim for £7 2s fid. .Judgment for plaintiff with costs 15s. Oliver and Duff (Air Eleock) v. AY in. L. Sliniul claim for £3 4s fid. Judgment for plaintiffs with costs 23s fid. A large number of other cases were either settled confessed or paid into court.
