A telegram from Winnipeg states that John Chalfey, a Canndian-I’aeiiic Railway agent at Waleh, a remote station, was awakened early by the breaking of glass. lie opened the window in his bedroom above the station and a voice demanded, “ Come down and open the safe.” Three bandits then besieged Chalfey who locked himself upstairs and telegraphed to the nearest station which sent a locomotive with several armed men. On arrival they found nothing, and thinking the bandits had escaped they separated and searched. Two shots were heard and two officers were found dead. A big posse was then organised, hut the bandits had escaped in the storm.
